Record Store Day is an international yearly event which was founded in 2007. It's purpose? To celebrate the art of music, and to bring together fans, artists and independent record stores. This day allows for those stores that aren't given much recognition - the local record shops, not HMV or such stores. It also helps to keep alive the purchase of vinyls, and remind people of the foundations of music. The sacred vinyl - the Godfather of music storage. It's given birth to; the cassette tape, the CD and of course the now ever popular MP3 downloads. But it all started with a huge 10" disc placed delicately on a turntable - Record Store Day aims to reminisce and remember music as an art form and remind us there is more to music that overproduce computerised sounds and chisel faced boy-bands. This years Record Store Day is the 7th consecutive day and falls on 20th April and features new releases from such iconic British artists like David Bowie and Kate Bush. | Bowie of course making a surprise reappearance after ten years out of the public eye. Other releases this year include; The Human League, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd. To see the full list, or to find a participating store visit www.recordstoreday.co.uk |
