I had preconceptions that this album would be full of more typical Gaga-ism's and devotions to sex and her little monsters. The sex is still there, but Lady Gaga has re-branded herself as a sort of Space Goddess in the same way David Bowie characterised himself as the spaceman in the 1970's. The album is released with a groundbreaking new app, which is a first since Bjork's Biophilia App in 2011, described on Google Play as: "a musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion and technology with a new interactive worldwide community". Having listened to ARTPOP, I recommend that you avoid listening to Jewels N'Drugs and MANiCURE, as they lack like-ability, and MANiCURE is particularly very repetitive. | There are elements of this album that feel like cut up versions of Fame, Lady Gaga's first album - the use of lyrics seen before and topics of sex and similar issues from previous albums revisited. Lady Gaga introduces a new space age perspective on popular culture; but she sings "pop culture was in art, now art's in pop culture in me" - I agree, art is in pop culture, but i'm sorry to say, it is not in Lady Gaga. The title of the album almost feels like a cheap rip off of Andy Warhol's Pop Art era, with elements recycled from previous moments in her career. Four stars. Tracks worth listening to: |

Kate Bush― one of the most successful yet understated
British Artists. Dubbed the Queen of British Pop, Bush has had 10 albums, her latest single release was this Summer and proved a big hit following it's play during the London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony. (watch here) The tenth album in her long career, which started in 1978 with the release of her most famous songs 'Wuthering Heights'. is set on a falling background of snow. The album reached number 5 on the UK Album's Chart and features some major stars including Elton John and strangely enough; Steven Fry - who uses his voice to create a beautiful song named '50 Words For Snow' - the title track. If you are looking for an album to last you the winter, then look no further, the album lasts a very lengthy 65 minutes and has just seven tracks, the longest 'Misty' is 13 minutes and 32 seconds long. The album itself is packaged unusually... forget the classic plastic case and sleeve, this album is made like a book, with pages featuring press shots and descriptions. For a winter album, chose '50 Words for Snow'. |
