Ahhhh money-saving!
You practically have to be a millionaire to travel by train these days... What with the average fare rising by 4.3% and around 13% of trains running late. But there is a handy way to save mega money, and that is the 16-25 railcard.
A 16-25 travel card, which lasts for a year usually costs £28 and can save you 1/3 on all rail tickets. Here are some examples of how much you could potentially save:
London to Manchester - £37 becomes £24.40 saving £12.60
Norwich to London Liv - £8 becomes £5.30 saving £2.70
London to Edinburgh - £128.70 becomes £84.95 saving £43.75
All fares are eligible for the discount, unless you travel between 4.30am and 10am on a weekday (in the summer this rule doesn't apply) plus you DON'T have to be under 25 to apply... All you need to do is prove you're in education, and your eligible! Simples.
Instead of the year's price of £28, StudentBeans.co.uk is offering the card for just £22.40 until 16th March 2013 using the discount code STUDENT20 click here to buy or find more info.
If you calculate - over a year, the savings that you make in travel pay off the £22 for the card - in most long journeys, you save well OVER £20! The only disadvantage to the card is that it doesn't apply to most first class journeys - so for those who like the life of luxury, check your journey first to see if you are eligible for savings.
Don't be a victim of the money pinching National Rail.... Get the card, and save quite a lot of pounds!
