The first man to leave a footprint on the Moon, Neil Armstrong died today at the age of 82.
His family gave a statement today saying he died of complications following a cardiovascular (heart) operation.
The American astronaut was the first human being to set foot on the moon on the 20th, July, 1969.

Armstrong was the commander of Apollo 11, which landed on the moon in front of a live television audience of an estimated 500 million people.
Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon told the BBC's Newshour that it was sad that Armstrong would not be able celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo mission in 2019.
His family are said to be deeply upset, but praised him for being a "reluctant American hero".
